These are turbulent times for the big Internet companies that make their living from selling advertising. As is the case with any kind of economic slowdown, companies are quick to cut ad spending. But for Amazon.com Inc., whose e-commerce business is faltering, advertising is proving to be a bright spot.
Well, relatively speaking. Like Amazon's rivals in digital advertising, the company's second-quarter ad revenue growth rate slowed to 18% from 32% in the fourth quarter, before picking up the recent slowdown, Amazon reported Thursday. But it still cruises at a decent freeway speed compared to some other digital advertising companies. Most obviously, ad revenue at Meta Platforms Inc. slowed to -1.5% in the second quarter from 20% in the fourth quarter. Even Google's ad revenue fell to 11.6% in the quarter from 32.5% in the fourth quarter.
