
Amazon plans to buy primary care organization One Medical in a nearly $4 billion deal, adding to the tech giant's growing list of acquisitions and attempts to expand its reach in the healthcare industry.
"We believe healthcare is at the top of the list of experiences that need to be reinvented," Amazon Health Services senior vice president Neil Lindsay said in a statement last week.
One Medical is a membership-based primary care practice with nearly 200 locations nationwide that also offers virtual services. The company had around 767,000 member patients in May.
"There is immense opportunity to make the healthcare experience more accessible, affordable and even enjoyable for patients, providers and payers," said Amir Dan Rubin, CEO of One Medical, in a statement.
